Dr. Eva Ramirez-Llodra

Science Coordinator, REV Ocean

Science Director, REV Ocean

Dr. Eva Ramirez-Llodra is a benthic marine ecologist with more than 20 years of experience in deep-sea research and a strong emphasis on the science–policy interface.

She has extensive experience in international programme management with leading roles in several major international initiatives, including the International Network for Scientific Investigations of Deep-Sea Ecosystems (INDEEP), the Deep-Ocean Stewardship Initiative (DOSI), the IUCN Commission on Ecosystem Management working group on deep-sea mining, and the Antarctica InSync deep-benthic working group, among others.

Following a PhD on deep-sea ecology at the University of Southampton in 2001, Eva managed the ChEss programme of the Census of Marine Life, focused on the biogeography of deep-water chemosynthetic ecosystems (2002–2010). She later conducted research in deep-sea ecology at the UK's National Oceanography Centre and at the Institute of Marine Sciences (ICM-CSIC) in Spain. In 2014, Eva joined the Norwegian Institute for Water Research (NIVA) in Oslo as a senior scientist, where she developed a strong focus on Arctic deep-sea research. She joined REV Ocean in Norway in June 2019 as Science Coordinator and became Science Director in 2023. In her current role, Eva leads the organisation's scientific strategy, defines its research agenda and oversees the deployment of the REV Ocean research vessel to maximise scientific impact in ocean protection.
