Karina von Schuckmann (Dr., HDR) is Senior Advisor, Ocean Science for Policy, at Mercator Ocean International in France. Her research focus lies in understanding the role of the ocean in the Earth's climate system, its changes and the underlying processes involved, and she is a world-leading specialist on the Earth energy imbalance. She is the director of the Copernicus Ocean State Report, lead author of the IPCC SROCC, AR6 WG1 main report, and the upcoming AR7 WG1 main report; she is an author for the WMO State of the Climate, World Ocean Assessment and the IOC-UNESCO Ocean Report, and member of the World Ocean Assessment Group of Experts. She is a member of several international expert groups on ocean and climate science and of the European Academy of Sciences, and she received in 2023 the French Academy of Sciences Climate Prize and the Excellence Professorship of the Prof. Dr Werner Petersen Foundation in 2025.
