As of 1 September 2025, James Morrison is Director of the 'Healthy Planet' Directorate in DG Research and Innovation. Prior to that he was Director of the Regulatory Scrutiny Board (2021-2025), served as Head of Cabinet for the Commissioner for Security Union (2016-2019), Director of Policy Coordination in the Secretariat-General (2014-2016), Chief of Staff to the High Representative of the EU for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy (2009-2014), and Head of Cabinet for the Commissioner for Trade (2008-2009). Before joining the Commission, he spent over 20 years working across the UK’s Foreign and Commonwealth Office and the UK Representation to the EU.
