Olivier Thibault is a senior civil servant specialising in water, biodiversity, and environmental policy. A graduate of École Polytechnique and the École nationale du Génie rural, des Eaux et des Forêts, he has held numerous senior positions within government services and public environmental bodies.
After several territorial postings in the fields of water and the environment, he served as an adviser at the Ministry of Ecology, then as Director-General of the Artois-Picardie Water Agency from 2010 to 2017. He subsequently led the Office national de la chasse et de la faune sauvage from 2017 to 2019, before becoming Director of Water and Biodiversity at the Ministry for Ecological Transition. Since June 2023, he has served as Director-General of the French Office for Biodiversity (OFB).
Throughout his career he has been particularly committed to policies for biodiversity conservation, water management, and reconciling environmental imperatives with human activities.
