Senior administrator of the French Southern and Antarctic Lands
A graduate in Political Sciences, Mikael Quimbert spent the first part of his career as a senior civil servant in the maritime administration. In that capacity, he notably led the maritime affairs administration of New Caledonia, where he championed the creation of the Coral Sea Marine Natural Park (2014). He subsequently moved into cross-ministerial roles, particularly at the Ministries of the Environment, Agriculture and Overseas Territories, and finally in the Cabinet of the Prime Minister. Since January 2026, he has been Senior Administrator of the French Southern and Antarctic Lands, where he returns to his areas of predilection: the sea, ecology and overseas territories.
