Dr. Shawnee Traylor is a chemical oceanographer and Postdoctoral Fellow at the Monterey Bay Aquarium Research Institute (MBARI). Drawing on fieldwork experience from pole to pole, she combines autonomous observational platforms with traditional oceanographic methods to study the ocean's role in the global carbon cycle. Her research includes the emerging science of ocean-based climate solutions, and she is a Research Fellow with the Carbon to Sea Initiative exploring the role these may play on the path to decarbonization. Committed to ensuring ocean science informs policy, Shawnee has engaged with the international climate policy through the first COP Ocean Pavilion and serves as an inaugural ambassador of the Protect Our Winters Water Alliance, translating climate science into advocacy alongside athletes, creatives, and policymakers. She holds a Ph.D. from the MIT-WHOI Joint Program and an undergraduate degree from Columbia University.
