Sabine Gollner
Deep-sea benthic ecologist
Sabine Gollner is a deep-sea benthic ecologist at the Royal Netherlands Institute for Sea Research (NIOZ). Her current research includes the diversity, connectivity and resilience of deep-sea hydrothermal-vent fauna, as well as the diversity and restoration of fauna following test-mining impacts at polymetallic-nodule fields. She has taken part in and led numerous oceanographic cruises using remotely operated vehicles (ROVs) and crewed submersible dives.
Sabine works transdisciplinarily and investigates mitigation actions for the potential impacts of any future deep-seabed mining, seeking to integrate science, management and governance. She is co-lead of the Minerals Working Group of the Deep Ocean Stewardship Initiative and a member of the Netherlands Ocean Decade Committee.
